July Chakrubscopes & Entering into Eclipse Season

With several retrogrades, the sun moving from watery Cancer to bold Leo, a partial solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse, the month of July is sure to pack a punch.

First up we have the 4th of July, which isn’t celebrated as an astrological event, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look at it through that lens. This American holiday happens to fall on the same day that Chiron in Aries stations retrograde for four months, putting attention on our personal wounds and how we project them onto others. From my point of view, Independence Day is largely a meaningless holiday, little more than an excuse to drink and watch fireworks. While it may be tempting to indulge in the festivities and temporarily forget the atrocities that our government is committing, that is a privilege in itself. We can find empowerment by remembering the true definition of freedom and putting our efforts towards inviting more of that into our lives. We can also donate our time, money, and effort to organizations that are helping to bridge the gaps of inequality in our societies.

On July 9, Venus moves from flirtatious Leo to fact-driven Virgo -- try not to dwell on the details too much and practice surrender in the face of perfectionism. In tarot tradition, Virgo rules the major arcana card The Crone. Spend the next three weeks inviting Venusian energy into your private, inner worlds and beautify them however possible.

A Cancer new moon and partial solar eclipse arrives on July 12. Prepare for things -- perhaps concerning your safety, home environment, nurturing and care -- to be revealed, but pause before reacting. A partial eclipse indicates that you might not have the full picture yet. It’s a good time to self-care, but perhaps not the best new moon for starting something new, especially since we’ll be in the shadow of Mercury Retrograde.

On July 22 the sun moves into Leo, bringing us that fun, flirty summer energy we’ve been craving. Good activities to do while the sun is in Leo include planning a beach day with friends, debuting a new hairstyle that makes you stand out from the crowd, and seeing a dramatic play (Shakespeare in the Park, anyone?).

Mercury stations retrograde in Leo on July 25, and we can all expect an ego check (or two) over the next few weeks. Notice what makes your ego feel threatened and titles that you’re attached to that may no longer fit. As with most planetary retrogrades, it’s not the best time to start a brand new project, but it’s great for repurposing, rethinking, and all those other re-words.

Finally, July ends with a full moon and total lunar eclipse in Aquarius on July 27. Think about what was revealed during the new moon partial eclipse and if you have more information now. With Mercury still early in its retrograde, it might not be the best time to act, but simply hold space for whatever comes up.

Six of Pentacles

The Six of Pentacles indicates that you’ll find support as well as success by inviting those you love into your comfy crab shell. This Cancer season has been hard on us all, probably no one more than you, but you don’t have to do it alone. You have friends, family, and a support system that will watch sad romantic movies and cry alongside you if that’s what you’re determined to do. If you’re having trouble pulling yourself out of a funk, the Six of Pentacles also suggests that you might find some relief in being of service to others. Underneath that shell armor you’re a big softie who loves to nurture and care for others. You might find yourself grateful to focus on problems other than your own.

Support stone: Amazonite will help you get in touch with your inner warrior.

Affirmation: I go where I am most needed, whether that’s within or outside of myself.

The Empress

You’re not one to shy away from attention, Leo, and The Empress is encouraging you to place your focus on yourself to see whether you are acting in service to all of your needs. The part where you might struggle is with The Empress’ pace, which is slow, steady, and thorough, leaving no stone unturned. Expect your routines to come under question, as well as what you put in and how you treat your body. Don’t rush these answers (especially with Mercury in retrograde in your sign), you’re likely to find them in stillness or through patience. Remember that you have to take care of yourself before extending that courtesy to anyone else.

Support stone: Bloodstone will help you get in touch with the intuition of your ancestors as well as the earth.

Affirmation: I allow myself time to get grounded and exchange energy with the earth.

Ace of Wands

The Ace of Wands wants you to use this upcoming Venus in Virgo energy to your advantage. Allow yourself to bloom in a new way and try not to compare your flowering with others. Tap into that earthy independent energy and give yourself some solo loving or maybe try something new if you have a regular partner. Dedicate some time to an old passion project or hobby. The Ace of Wands encourages you to take the risk and promises that the reward will be worth it.

Support stone: Green aventurine will invite luck to look your way.

Affirmation: Just like a ripe rose, I attract the attention of every passerby.

Six of Cups

The Six of Cups could mean several things related to the past and its impact on how you act in the present. In its lower expression, this card depicts us bottled up and floating in nostalgia, a place that feels sweet at first, but ultimately does not deliver growth. In its higher expression, it sees us coming to terms with and learning from experiences that we had not fully recovered from. Know that by choosing the more evolved option, which may not be the most popular or understood, you are allowing the past to integrate instead of hold you back. Swim beyond the shallow waters of your comfort level and take note of how past experiences have prepared you for this present moment.

Support stone: Obsidian will help reveal what may be blocking your way.

Affirmation: Coming to terms with past experiences creates room to make new memories.

Five of Pentacles

The Five of Pentacles indicates a physical loss of some kind and asks how we recover when things don’t go our way. Do you over-identify with your pain and spend time sulking? Or do you turn to what gives you strength and search for the lesson that might not be obvious at first? The figure in the Five of Pentacles may be followed by a rain cloud, but instead of crossing their arms and pouting, they commit to their spiritual practices that much more, offering up what’s left of their magic and asking source for direction.

Support stone: Malachite will help you tune into the heart while looking to the future with optimism.

Affirmation: As much contraction as I feel is how much I will eventually expand.

Seven of Cups

Your sign is symbolized by The Archer and there’s no stopping you when you set your sights on a goal. The Seven of Cups cautions you to remember the purpose that is driving you to action and warns you not to get lost in distractions. In the image on this card, a mermaid falls drunkenly to the bottom of the sea, her eyes closed to the cups that sit in air bubbles above her. Don’t lose touch with your feelings as they can provide important information as you work towards your goals.

Support stone: Pyrite will ground some of your fiery energy and ignite your will.

Affirmation: I know there is no dodging reality and so I work with it in synchronicity.

Knight of Swords

Charge ahead, noble Capricorn! The Knight of Swords shows you feeling invigorated, motivated, and perhaps overconfident. There’s nothing wrong with faking it until you make it, so I encourage you to embrace this Knight of Swords energy and allow yourself to get swept up in the momentum. You’re usually a planner who rarely loosens the reins of control, and the Knight of Swords might help you live in the moment a little more than usual. Just be careful to check your ego and admit when you’re wrong if you end up getting ahead of yourself.

Support stone: Selenite will connect you to divine wisdom to order your steps.

Affirmation: I gallop towards my greatest ambitions, confident that there is no such thing as failure.

The Eight of Cups

There’s a full moon lunar eclipse in your sign at the end of this month and The Eight of Cups promises that you’ll be feeling it all month long. You’re known for your humanitarian heart, but when it comes to dealing with your personal feels, you tend to be avoiding. The Eight of Cups reassures that you have enough limbs to hold all of your cups -- or emotions -- and that the only threat is denying them to the point that the dam eventually breaks. Up your self-care in preparation for this full moon and you can expect a satisfying release.

Support stone: Moonstone will connect you to the divine mother that exists within us all.

Affirmation: I am capable of holding space for whatever arises within me.

Five of Wands

Your sign rules the twelfth house and closes the astrological year. It deals with themes of unity and collective consciousness. You, more than anyone else, understand that our separateness is an illusion and we are all one. This means that you take it even more personally when there’s conflict in your circle. You’re a peacemaker through and through, but the Five of Wands cautions that it’s not always that easy to overcome strife. Instead of dismissing the issue at hand, try to figure out what the root is and look for long lasting solutions.

Support stone: Kyanite will bring a harmonious, balancing energy into any situation.

Affirmation: Conflict offers clarity when I am willing to look at the situation head on.

The Hierophant

The Major Arcana Hierophant card depicts a big thought cloud floating over an aimless mermaid. It advises that we get in touch with the traditions and beliefs that have guided us to this present moment and decide which ones still fit. Are you adhering to someone else’s expectations of who you should be? Are you actions a reflection of your deepest held beliefs? It’s okay if you don’t know these answers right away, but spend this month meditating on them. Then you can move forward confidently without needing any outside affirmation on how you choose to live your life.

Support stone: Rhodonite will help you ground into the truth while imbuing you with love.

Affirmation: A tradition has no purpose if it keeps me feeling stuck and small.

Queen of Wands

It might as well be Taurus season because the Queen of Wands assures that you’re having a moment, a spotlight if you will. Whether it’s a creative idea, new job opportunity, or perhaps a reinvigorated sex life, you’re working with some potent energy this month. Enjoy yourself, but don’t forget about the Queens’ secret weapon, which is their connection to the watery feeling realm. Stay tuned into your emotional experience and you’ll receive unexpected guidance along the way.

Support stone: The star ruby will encourage your passion while keeping you grounded.

Affirmation: I rule my life with responsibility, always connected to love.

The Chariot

Fitting that you should get this card while the sun is in Cancer, which is the ruler of The Chariot. In this card, the wind whips the figure’s hair as she bikes towards a destination unknown. She seems confident, but somewhere along her journey, she’ll likely have to reassess her steed and consider putting on some shoes. The Chariot wants you to consider the vehicles (both literal and symbolic) that are helping you move towards your goals. Are you truly prepared and what might make it an easier, more comfortable ride? Perhaps the answer is to ditch the contraption altogether and trust your feet to lead the way.

Support stone: A sunstone will bring about abundance and guide you towards a fulfilled life.

Affirmation: There is no need to look outside of myself for reassurance when all the answers are within.
