February Chakrubscopes and an Extra Potent Full Moon Reset

Welcome to the first installment of Chakrubscopes, our unique take on horoscopes that infuses tarot wisdom with crystal healing and self-care.

Even though these readings are for February, I would be remiss if I didn't talk about the partial lunar eclipse on January 31st. Occuring at 5:27 AM PST, this is the second full moon of January, making it a blue moon. With no full moon in February, we’ll be feeling the remnants of this energy all month long. The moon on January 31st is also a blood moon, which means that it will appear red or copper in the sky as it passes through Earth’s shadow. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s also what’s referred to as a super moon, meaning that it will rise during the moon’s closest approach to Earth in a single orbit and appear about 7 percent larger and 14 percent brighter than usual. It’s the first time in 150 years that these three lunar events will coincide.

Situated in the fixed fire sign of Leo, this extra potent full moon will shine a spotlight on the stage of your dreams. If you’ve been shrinking away from your responsibilities, it will take you to task. Summon the courage of the Leo lion and embrace this revelatory moment. Revisit the resolutions you made on the Capricorn new moon and make any necessary adjustments to help you finish this lunar cycle on a high note.

On February 15th, we’ll experience a solar eclipse and new moon in the affable air sign of Aquarius, shifting our focus beyond ourselves to the larger impact of our actions. Aquarius is a sociable, innovative sign; use this opportunity to take a fresh approach to an old intention (you might use journal entries from the last solar eclipse in August as inspiration). Don't be afraid to network and bounce your ideas off others.

The sun will enter Pisces on February 18th, activating our imaginations and intuitive realms. After so much planetary action so early in the year, take all of the time you need to recover and rest. Remember that self-care is not a luxury, but a necessary foundation that provides the support for you to truly live in your purpose. Pisces season is the perfect time to reinforce meditative practices or explore lucid dreaming.

And without further ado, your February Chakrubscopes:

Eight of Swords

You cannot blind yourself to the truth, no matter how hard you try. Take a long, honest look at your life, then ask yourself what’s working and what’s not. You hold yourself to a high standard, but there are lessons in what you perceive to be a failure. Be kind to yourself as you seek these answers. If you’re not yet willing to open your eyes to reality, take this time to clear out the mental clutter. That way, when are ready to face the truth, it can be with an unobstructed view. Keep an open mind, the answers might be closer than you think.

Support Stone: Selenite desert rose will connect your base and higher chakras to help you remain grounded and clear-headed. Use this stone during meditation for clarity and to strengthen intuition.

Self-care homework: Think about people you admire, it could be anyone from Oprah to your favorite aunt. Imagine what they would say to encourage you during these challenging moments. Write down these words of wisdom and revisit them in times of uncertainty.

It’s a good thing you’re comfortable swimming in deep waters, dreamy Pisces. The Hierophant is asking you to sink to the depths of your subconscious to separate your true beliefs from the ones you’ve been indoctrinated in. This is a time of discernment, of learning to recognize the illusions you’ve bought into that are holding you back. What are your core truths? How are you expressing those into the world? Dive into a self-study so that you can be a better leader to yourself.

Support stone: Use amethyst for going deeper in your meditations and to connect with divine guidance.

Self-care homework: Meditate for 10 minutes and visualize what your life would be like if you lived by your core truths. Journal what comes up.

You’re blessed with a fiery will, Aries and the Magician is here to help you execute your ambitious vision. You are coming into a new way of being and even though there may be some trepidation, you know in your heart how necessary this transformation is. The Magician does not let his audience’s skepticism derail his act and you should not be swayed by those who do not understand your vision. Hold a detailed picture of what you hope to manifest and act like it's already yours.

Support stone: Use carnelian to help ground your fiery impulses and maintain focus.

Self-care homework: Write down a list of people you’re thankful for and what each of them brings to your life. You’re a trailblazing sign and it can be easy to forget all of the people who help you make magic. Bonus: Call someone on the list and tell them why you’re grateful for them.

5 of Wands

The 5 of Wands depicts women guarded against one another, vying for control. You might be moving past a difficult situation and debating the best path forward. Perhaps the situation is impending and you’re preparing for a confrontation. Whatever the case, this card wants you to worry less about being right and focus on the big picture instead. Is there a way to merge your perspectives and meet on common ground? Do what you do best and harvest shared soil, figure out a way to plant ideas side by side without treading on another’s roots.

Support stone: Rose quartz will help you approach tense or stressful situations with a compassionate and loving heart.

Self-care homework: Connect to your earthly roots with a walking meditation. Let the ground beneath you remind you that you are supported and to rise above the trivial drama.

6 of Wands

Are you ready for your close up, Gemini? People are beginning to recognize your worth, don’t shy away now. Accept every compliment you’re given -- trust me, there will be a lot. Be bold in what you offer the world and let it be the truest expression of yourself. Don’t be afraid to own your power, even if it makes some people uncomfortable. Celebrate this new phase of you and your becoming.

Support stone: The benevolent energies of green moonstone will fertilize your ideas and give you the confidence to stand in your truth.

Self-care homework: Stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eye and repeat affirmations for 3-5 minutes. Here are a few to get you started. Bonus: Before starting this exercise, slap on a shade of devil’s red lipstick, wear your favorite outfit, or dress up in a way that makes you feel extra confident.

This month will be all about coming out of your shell in a way that feels authentic to you. You’re not as awkward or out of place as you think, and you can prove this to yourself by entering unfamiliar settings and doing your best to go with the flow. If you’re single, this is a good time to put yourself out there in a new way. This Strength card assures your ability to tame others; you might be surprised by your own charm and charisma. This confidence will be key in helping you achieve some of the goals you’ve set for yourself this year.

Support stone: Pyrite will activate your sacral and solar plexus chakras to increase your drive towards pleasure and satisfaction.

Self-care homework: You’re a sign that loves self-care and sometimes uses it as an excuse to be alone. Your homework for this month is to practice self-care with other like-minded souls. Take a local meditation class, browse Meetup for ideas, or organize an intimate gathering with friends.

L E O

Queen of Swords

The Queen of Swords will cut to the truth, but be careful how you wield her or you could end up collateral damage. You are not one to back down, bold Leo, but this Queen of Swords is asking you to pause and think before you speak. Try to lead from your heart instead of your head. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed or triggered, but instead of lashing out, try to get still. Know that nothing will arise that you’re not ready for.

Support stone: The highly adaptable, amplifying energies of quartz will provide guidance and support on this month’s journey. Be intentional about which energies you program this crystal with.

Self-care homework: Temper your fire with a relaxing bath. Leave your phone on airplane mode and do nothing but daydream and listen to music.

The Tower

It may feel like buildings are toppling beneath you; find comfort in the knowledge that those structures were never meant to last. The Tower is a gift, a change so significant it cannot be ignored. It strikes down like a lightning bolt of electricity and splits you in two. It may be an uncomfortable or even painful process, but it also illuminates the true path to healing and wholeness. The Tower is deep, transformational work. By clearing away lingering traumas and fears, you create space for a greater joy to be realized.

Support stone: Let obsidian guard you from harmful energies and help you release mental blocks.

Self-care homework: Write down three of your personality traits that you perceive to be negative. Then, time yourself for five minutes and write down all of the ways these traits have assisted you. Understanding that these traits served a purpose will help you learn to accept them.

Knight of Cups

Love will see you through. Just as the figure in the Knight of Cups hugs the humpback whale and trusts it to lead her to surface, you must lean on loved ones when you are struggling. Trust that when you lose sight of your inner light, friends and family will be there to remind you that it still burns bright. Allow yourself to be vulnerable and you may find yourself surprised at the connections you create. The Knight of Cups encourages you to draw inspiration from your intimate relationships.

Support stone: Let aquamarine soothe you with its gentle oceanic vibrations. Keeping this stone close will clear your throat chakra and allow you to express yourself more clearly.

Self-care homework: Choose a word that represents a feeling you want to embody more of. Free write for ten minutes about this word. Afterwards scan the paper and see if you can piece together affirmations to help you commit to this feeling.

Eight of Cups

You’re feeling overwhelmed, but instead of admitting this, you’re trying to hold it all together, to extend yourself in every impossible direction. Your sign is represented by the scorpion, a creature capable of surviving harsh conditions that cause others to perish. You can find strength in this association, but don’t fool yourself into thinking that you’re superhuman. You can only give your full attention to one thing at a time. What is truly calling to be healed right now? Start there and don’t rush the process.

Support stone: Rhodonite will restore balance to your emotions and provide support during your healing process.

Self-care ritual: Take an epsom bath to draw out toxins and scrub away what no longer serves you. Think about what you’re shedding as you empty the tub and watch water swirl down the drain.

The Sun

Keep your eye on the target and release your bow, skilled Sagittarius. The Sun is shining bright on your endeavors. Now is the time to dream expansively. Be honest about your deepest desires and believe that they will come true. Commit to your passions by learning more about them, but don’t get so caught up in the details that you forget to have fun along the way. Be curious about where you can invite more light into your life.

Support stone: Use polychrome jasper as a transformative talisman as you set forth on a new enlightened path.

Self-care homework: Do a 10 minute meditation and visualize what it would be like to manifest your wildest dream. Where would you live? What would you do? How would it feel to live your life that way? Journal what comes up.

The Star

Not only have you weathered the storm, sturdy Capricorn, you’ve learned to work with the elements that others find intimidating. You feel more capable than ever and it’s completely deserved, you put in hard work to get here. Take time to rest and enjoy your well-deserved accolades. Inspiration flows through the Star, it’s a good time to work with the rebellious Aquarian traits of your shared planetary ruler Saturn and see how that changes your approach to love, work, and play.

Support Stone: A favorite stone of mystics, labradorite will bring your intuitive abilities to the fore and clear your throat chakra to express yourself in new ways (I’m thinking fashion, art, and dance to start).

Self-care homework: Ground excess energy with movement. Go to a yoga class, try a pole class, or twerk in front of the mirror. Find joy in being in your body.
